Description
1. Amoxicillin
- Class: Penicillin antibiotic.
- Indications/Uses: A first-line antibiotic for many common bacterial infections, including streptococcal pharyngitis (strep throat), otitis media (ear infections), community-acquired pneumonia, skin infections like impetigo, and dental infections.
2. Ciprofloxacin (Oral)
- Class: Fluoroquinolone antibiotic.
- Indications/Uses: Treatment for a wide range of bacterial infections including urinary tract infections (UTIs), certain gastrointestinal infections (e.g., traveler’s diarrhea), skin, bone, and joint infections, as well as typhoid fever, anthrax, and plague.
3. Doxycycline
- Class: Tetracycline antibiotic.
- Indications/Uses: Used to treat various bacterial infections including pneumonia, acne, chlamydia and other STIs, Lyme disease, and anthrax. It works by stopping bacterial growth.
4. Clindamycin
- Class: Lincosamide antibiotic.
- Indications/Uses: Used to treat serious bacterial infections, including skin and soft tissue infections, lung infections, and those of the abdominal area, pelvis, and female reproductive organs.
5. Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim DS (Sulfa/TMP DS)
- Class: Sulfonamide antibiotic (often referred to as a sulfa drug, a combination of two antibiotics).
- Indications/Uses: Used for treating various bacterial infections, notably urinary tract infections (UTIs), acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP), traveler’s diarrhea, and certain types of ear infections.
6. Ciprofloxacin Eye Drops 0.3%
- Class: Fluoroquinolone antibiotic (topical ophthalmic).
- Indications/Uses: Used to treat infections of the eye, specifically bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and corneal ulcers.
7. Neomycin-Polymyxin B-Hydrocortisone Ear Drops
- Class: Combination product: Neomycin and Polymyxin B are antibiotics (aminoglycoside and polymyxin, respectively), and hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid.
- Indications/Uses: Used to treat bacterial infections of the outer ear canal (otitis externa, also known as swimmer’s ear) and infections that can occur after certain ear surgeries, working by killing bacteria and reducing swelling, redness, and itching.
8. Azithromycin
- Class: Macrolide antibiotic.
- Indications/Uses: Treatment for a variety of bacterial infections, including bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections, strep throat, sinus infections, skin infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases.
9. Mupirocin Cream
- Class: Topical antibiotic.
- Indications/Uses: Indicated for the topical treatment of secondarily infected traumatic skin lesions (e.g., cuts, abrasions, sutured wounds) caused by susceptible Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Mupirocin ointment is specifically used for impetigo.
10. Albuterol Inhaler
- Class: Bronchodilator; specifically, a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (SABA).
