Monocef 1 gm contains the active ingredient Ceftriaxone, an antibiotic given to adults and children to treat infections of the brain, lungs, middle ear, blood, heart, kidneys, urinary tract, bones and joints, skin or soft tissues and the abdomen. It can be used under the following conditions: — Specific sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhoea and syphilis) — Patients with low white blood cell counts who have fever due to an infection caused by the bacteria — Chest infection in adults with chronic bronchitis — Lyme disease in adults and children, including newborn babies who are 25 days of age — To prevent the occurrence of infections during surgery Ceftriaxone belongs to the class of medications known as which works by killing bacteria responsible for causing infections.
