1 review for Bimatoprost (Latisse)
Latisse contains bimatoprost 0.03%. It is applied to the base of the upper eyelashes to help them grow longer, thicker and darker. It is used for hypotrichosis, which means not having enough eyelashes.
Results usually start to show after about 8 weeks, with full results at around 16 weeks. If you stop using it, eyelashes gradually return to how they were.
What is it used for?
- Thin, short or sparse eyelashes (hypotrichosis)
How does it work?
Bimatoprost lengthens the growing phase of eyelash hair and increases the number of hairs that grow.
This information is written in simple words to help you understand this product. It does not replace advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
Read these points before you start. If any of them apply to you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist first.
- Apply it only to the skin at the base of the upper lashes. Do not put it on the lower lid or into the eye.
- If you use glaucoma drops, tell your eye doctor before using it. It can affect your eye pressure readings.
- It can darken the eyelid skin and, rarely, darken the coloured part of the eye (iris) permanently.
- Hair may grow on skin that the solution touches often. Blot any extra with a tissue.
- Take out contact lenses before use and wait 15 minutes before putting them back in.
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every other medicine, vitamin or herbal product you use.
- Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children.
Like all medicines, Latisse can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them.
Common side effects
- Itchy or red eyes
- Darkening of the eyelid skin
- Dry eyes
- Irritation of the eyelid
These are usually mild and often get better as your body gets used to it. Tell your doctor if they bother you or do not go away.
Stop using it and get medical help straight away if you notice:
- Eye pain, swelling or discharge
- Changes in eyesight
- Swelling of the eyelids or face
This is not a complete list. If you notice anything unusual, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- Once a day, at night, remove make-up and contact lenses and wash your face.
- Put one drop of solution on a new sterile applicator brush and brush it along the skin at the base of the upper eyelashes, from the inner to the outer corner.
- Blot any extra with a tissue. Throw away the applicator and use a new one for the other eye.
- Do not apply it to the lower eyelid.
If you miss a dose: Skip the missed dose and use it the next evening. Do not use extra.
If you use too much: Contact your doctor, a poison control centre or your local emergency number straight away, even if you feel fine. Take the pack with you.
How to store it: Keep it in its original pack at room temperature (below 25°C / 77°F), away from heat, damp and direct sunlight. Do not use it after the expiry date.
