What is Quinapril / Hydrochlorothiazide? Quinapril / Hydrochlorothiazide is a combination prescription medication used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). It contains two active ingredients that work together to help lower blood pressure and improve cardiovascular health. Quinapril is an ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor that relaxes and widens blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (“water pill”) that helps the body eliminate excess salt and water, reducing fluid retention and lowering blood pressure. This medication has been marketed under various brand names in the past; however, this product is provided as the generic formulation.

Important Safety Information: Do not take Quinapril / Hydrochlorothiazide if you are allergic to quinapril, hydrochlorothiazide, or other ACE inhibitors, or if you are unable to urinate (anuria). Precautions While Taking This Medication: Certain conditions may cause very low blood pressure while taking this medication, including vomiting, diarrhea, excessive sweating, dehydration, low-salt diets, dialysis, or use of additional diuretics. Follow your doctor’s instructions regarding fluid intake and hydration. This medication may increase potassium levels; avoid potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium unless directed by your healthcare provider.

How to Take Quinapril / Hydrochlorothiazide: Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember; if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.

Things to Avoid: Avoid or limit alcohol consumption, do not become overheated or dehydrated during exercise or hot weather, and avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless approved by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects: Common side effects may include dizziness or lightheadedness, swelling of the ankles or feet, and flushing. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience fainting, fast or irregular heartbeat, or any severe or unusual symptoms. You may report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
