1. Symbicort (Budesonide/Formoterol)
- Class: Inhaled Corticosteroid (ICS) and Long-Acting Beta2-Agonist (LABA) combination.
- Labeled Indications & Uses: Maintenance treatment of asthma in patients 6 years and older; maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction and reduction of exacerbations in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
- Unlabeled (Off-Label) Use: Single Maintenance and Reliever Therapy (SMART), where it is used as both a daily controller and a rescue inhaler for acute symptoms.
2. Spiriva (Tiotropium Bromide)
- Class: Anticholinergic (Long-Acting Muscarinic Antagonist or LAMA).
- Labeled Indications & Uses: Long-term maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with COPD; reducing COPD exacerbations; maintenance treatment of asthma in patients 6 years and older (specifically the Spiriva Respimat formulation).
