Lumigan contains Bimatoprost.

Bimatoprost eye drops lower raised pressure inside the eye. They are used for open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension (high eye pressure), helping protect your sight from damage.

Bimatoprost also makes eyelashes grow longer and thicker, which is why a lower-strength version is used for sparse eyelashes.

What is it used for?

Open-angle glaucoma
Ocular hypertension (raised eye pressure)

How does it work?

Bimatoprost helps fluid drain out of the eye more easily. Less fluid means lower pressure, which protects the optic nerve.

This information is written in simple words to help you understand this product. It does not replace advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

Read these points before you start. If any of them apply to you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist first.

Glaucoma often has no symptoms until sight is lost, so use your drops every day even if your eyes feel fine. Lost sight cannot be restored, but treatment can protect the sight you have.
If you wear soft contact lenses, take them out before using the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.
If you use more than one kind of eye drop, wait at least 5 minutes between them.
Do not let the tip of the bottle touch your eye or anything else, to keep the drops clean.
Your vision may be blurred for a short time after using the drops. Do not drive until it clears.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
It can slowly and permanently make the coloured part of your eye (iris) browner, especially in mixed-colour eyes like green-brown or blue-brown. This is more noticeable if you use it in only one eye.
It can make eyelashes longer, thicker and darker, and darken the skin of the eyelids.
Tell your doctor if you have eye inflammation (uveitis), recent eye surgery, or macular oedema.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every other medicine, vitamin or herbal product you use.
Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children.

Like all medicines, Lumigan can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them.

Common side effects

Red or bloodshot eyes
Itchy, gritty or stinging eyes
Longer, thicker, darker eyelashes
Darker eyelid skin
Gradual darkening of the iris

These are usually mild and often get better as your body gets used to it. Tell your doctor if they bother you or do not go away.

Stop using it and get medical help straight away if you notice:

Eye pain, swelling, severe redness or discharge (possible infection or reaction)
Sudden changes in eyesight
Swelling of the eyelids, face or lips, or trouble breathing

This is not a complete list. If you notice anything unusual, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Use one drop in the affected eye(s) once a day, in the evening.
Do not use it more than once a day. Using it more often can make it work less well.
Wait at least 5 minutes before using any other eye drops.

If you miss a dose: Use it as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Do not use extra drops to make up.

If you use too much: If you use too many drops, rinse your eye with warm water. If drops are swallowed by accident, especially by a child, contact a doctor.

How to store it: Keep the bottle tightly closed. Follow the storage instructions on the pack. Throw the bottle away 4 weeks after opening (unless the pack says otherwise).

How do I put in Lumigan eye drops properly?: Wash your hands. Tilt your head back, gently pull down your lower eyelid to make a small pocket, look up, and squeeze one drop into the pocket. Close your eye and press gently on the inner corner (near your nose) for 1 to 2 minutes. This keeps more medicine in the eye.
Will I need Lumigan forever?: Glaucoma is a long-term condition, so most people need eye drops for life. Your eye doctor will check your eye pressure regularly.
What if I cannot tell if the drop went in?: If you are not sure, you can use one more drop. Some people keep the bottle in the fridge (if allowed) so they can feel the cool drop.
Why are my eyes red on Lumigan?: Redness is common, especially when you start. It often gets better within a few weeks.
Why use Lumigan in the evening?: Eye pressure-lowering drops of this type work best when used once a day in the evening.
