Ceroxim 500 mg is the oral drug formulation containing the active ingredient cefuroxime sodium. It belongs to a class of antibiotics known as cephalosporins. Doctors prescribe Ceroxim to treat the following bacterial infections: Tonsilitis/pharyngitis – Ceroxim tables treat adult patients and paediatrics 13 years and older with mild to moderate tonsilitis/pharyngitis caused by susceptible bacteria. Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils, while pharyngitis is an inflammation of the pharynx resulting in a sore throat. Otitis media – Ceroxim treats pediatric patients with acute bacterial otitis media (an infection in the middle ear). Sinusitis (infection of the sinuses) – The tablets are prescribed to treat adults and pediatric patients 13 years and older with mild to moderate acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis Bronchitis- It is given to adults and paediatrics to treat inflammation of the lining of bronchial tubes that carry air from your lungs. Skin and skin structure infections Urinary tract infections Gonorrhoea – It is a sexually transmitted infection caused by bacteria. Lyme disease – Cefuroxime effectively treats Lyme disease, a vector-borne disease transmitted to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks. Ceroxim 500 should be used only to treat or prevent infections caused by bacteria. It is not effective against viral infections such as cold and flu.
