How does it work?

The herbs are traditionally believed to gently stimulate the bowel and soften stools.

This is a herbal supplement, not a licensed medicine. Its claims have not been checked in the same way as medicines, and scientific evidence for it is limited.
Do not use it instead of medicine your doctor has prescribed. Do not stop your prescribed medicines without talking to your doctor.
"Natural" does not always mean safe. Herbs can cause side effects and can interact with medicines.
Talk to your doctor before using it if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding, have a long-term illness, or are having surgery.
Not for children unless a doctor says so.
Read the ingredient list on the pack carefully, especially if you have allergies.

Like all medicines, Picrolax can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them.

Common side effects

Mild stomach upset, wind or loose stools
Feeling sick
Stomach cramps

These are usually mild and often get better as your body gets used to it. Tell your doctor if they bother you or do not go away.

Stop using it and get medical help straight away if you notice:

Signs of an allergic reaction, such as a rash, swelling of the face or lips, or trouble breathing
Yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine or pale stools (a rare liver reaction to some herbs)
Any new or worrying symptom after starting it

This is not a complete list. If you notice anything unusual, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Follow the dose on the pack, usually at bedtime.
Swallow with a full glass of water.
Drink plenty of fluids, eat fibre and stay active to help prevent constipation.

If you miss a dose: Take it as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose.

If you use too much: Contact your doctor, a poison control centre or your local emergency number straight away, even if you feel fine. Take the pack with you.

How to store it: Keep it in its original pack at room temperature (below 25°C / 77°F), away from heat, damp and direct sunlight. Do not use it after the expiry date.

Is Picrolax a medicine?: No. It is a traditional herbal supplement. It is not meant to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Can I take Picrolax with my regular medicines?: Some herbs can interact with medicines. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.
How long does Picrolax take to work?: Herbal supplements usually work slowly, if at all. Many people take them for a few weeks to months. If you notice no benefit after 2 to 3 months, it may not be helping you.
