1 review for Theophylline (Quibron-T)
Quibron-T contains Theophylline.
Theophylline is a medicine that relaxes the airways in the lungs. It is used to prevent wheezing and shortness of breath in asthma and COPD.
It is usually added when inhalers alone are not enough. Because the safe range is narrow, blood tests are needed.
What is it used for?
- Asthma (as an add-on)
- COPD
How does it work?
Theophylline relaxes the muscles around the airways and reduces inflammation, helping air flow in and out more easily.
This information is written in simple words to help you understand this product. It does not replace advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
Read these points before you start. If any of them apply to you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist first.
- Many things change theophylline levels. Smoking (including stopping smoking), fever, heart failure, liver disease and many medicines (such as ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, clarithromycin, fluvoxamine and some seizure medicines) can affect it. Tell your doctor about any changes.
- Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy, heart rhythm problems, a stomach ulcer, an overactive thyroid or high blood pressure.
- Limit caffeine (coffee, tea, energy drinks), as it adds to side effects.
- Always use the same brand of slow-release tablet.
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every other medicine, vitamin or herbal product you use.
- Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children.
Like all medicines, Quibron-T can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them.
Common side effects
- Feeling sick
- Headache
- Trouble sleeping
- Feeling nervous or shaky
- Fast heartbeat
These are usually mild and often get better as your body gets used to it. Tell your doctor if they bother you or do not go away.
Stop using it and get medical help straight away if you notice:
- Being sick often, a fast or uneven heartbeat, or feeling very restless (possible toxic level)
- A fit (seizure)
- Severe stomach pain or vomiting blood
This is not a complete list. If you notice anything unusual, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- Take it once or twice a day, as your doctor tells you, at the same times each day.
- Swallow slow-release tablets whole with water. Do not crush or chew them.
- Your doctor will adjust the dose using blood tests. A common adult dose is 300 mg to 600 mg a day.
- Go to all your blood tests.
If you miss a dose: Take it as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Never take two doses at once.
If you use too much: Contact your doctor, a poison control centre or your local emergency number straight away, even if you feel fine. Take the pack with you.

- QWhy do I need blood tests on Quibron-T?
- A
The helpful and harmful levels are close together. Blood tests keep your level safe.
- QCan I drink coffee with Quibron-T?
- A
Keep it to small amounts. Caffeine is similar to theophylline and adds to side effects.
- QDoes smoking affect Quibron-T?
- A
Yes. Smoking lowers theophylline levels. If you stop smoking, your level can rise, so tell your doctor.

Ananya Martin –
It came in a reasonable amount of time. My Theophylline matched the description on the page. Someone from the team followed up to make sure all was fine.
