Drug Information
1 review for Antibiotic Package
The Antibiotic Package is a collection of individual antibiotics put together in one box. It contains: amoxicillin 500 mg, ciprofloxacin 500 mg, sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim (Bactrim DS), doxycycline 100 mg (with lactic acid bacillus), clindamycin 150 mg, azithromycin 250 mg, ciprofloxacin 0.3% eye drops and antibiotic ear drops.
Each antibiotic works against different germs and different types of infection. Choosing the wrong one can make it fail or help germs become resistant. They should only be used when a doctor has diagnosed a bacterial infection.
What is it used for?
- Amoxicillin: chest, ear, throat, dental and urinary infections
- Ciprofloxacin tablets: urinary, gut and some other infections
- Bactrim DS: urinary and some other infections
- Doxycycline: chest infections, some sexually transmitted infections, and malaria prevention
- Clindamycin: skin, bone and dental infections, often for people allergic to penicillin
- Azithromycin: chest, throat and some sexually transmitted infections
- Ciprofloxacin eye drops: bacterial eye infections. Antibiotic ear drops: bacterial ear infections.
How does it work?
Antibiotics kill bacteria or stop them from growing. Each one works in a different way and on different types of bacteria. They do not work against viruses such as colds and flu.
This information is written in simple words to help you understand this product. It does not replace advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
Read these points before you start. If any of them apply to you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist first.
- Every medicine in this package is a prescription medicine. Only use each one for a condition that a doctor has diagnosed, at the dose they tell you.
- Read the full information for each individual medicine before use, including its warnings, side effects and interactions.
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every medicine, vitamin and supplement you take, as some of these medicines interact with each other and with other medicines.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have allergies, or have liver, kidney or heart problems.
- Check the expiry date of each item regularly and replace them when needed. Store everything as each label says.
- Having medicines at home is not a replacement for medical care. In an emergency, always call your local emergency number.
- Antibiotics do not work for colds, flu or most sore throats, which are caused by viruses.
- Always finish the course your doctor prescribes.
- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin (amoxicillin), sulfa medicines (Bactrim) or any antibiotic.
- Do not give doxycycline to children under 8 or during pregnancy. Ciprofloxacin is not usually for people under 18.
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every other medicine, vitamin or herbal product you use.
- Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children.
Like all medicines, Antibiotic Package can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them.
Common side effects
- Diarrhoea or loose stools
- Feeling sick or stomach upset
- Thrush (yeast infection)
- Skin more sensitive to sunlight (doxycycline, ciprofloxacin, Bactrim)
These are usually mild and often get better as your body gets used to it. Tell your doctor if they bother you or do not go away.
Stop using it and get medical help straight away if you notice:
- Signs of a serious allergic reaction to any item: swelling of the face, lips or throat, trouble breathing, or a severe rash
- Any serious or unexpected side effect listed for the individual medicines
- Severe, watery or bloody diarrhoea
- Tendon pain or swelling (ciprofloxacin)
- A severe rash with blisters or peeling skin
This is not a complete list. If you notice anything unusual, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- Only use each antibiotic when a doctor has diagnosed an infection that needs it, at the dose they prescribe.
- Follow the individual instructions for each medicine, found on its pack and its own product page.
- Never share antibiotics or use leftover antibiotics without medical advice.
If you miss a dose: Follow the missed dose advice for each individual medicine.
If you use too much: Contact your doctor, a poison control centre or your local emergency number straight away, even if you feel fine. Take the pack with you.
How to store it: Keep it in its original pack at room temperature (below 25°C / 77°F), away from heat, damp and direct sunlight. Do not use it after the expiry date.
