Meldonium (also called mildronate) is a medicine made in Latvia. It is used in some Eastern European countries for heart problems such as angina and heart failure, and for poor blood flow to the brain.
It is not approved in the USA, UK or EU, and there is limited good-quality research on how well it works. It is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), so athletes who are tested must not use it.

How does it work?
