Drug Information
1 review for Cinacalcet (Sensipar)
Sensipar contains Cinacalcet.
Cinacalcet is a medicine that lowers high parathyroid hormone and calcium levels. It is used for people on dialysis with overactive parathyroid glands, and for some other parathyroid problems.
What is it used for?
- Secondary hyperparathyroidism in people on dialysis
- High calcium caused by parathyroid cancer
- Primary hyperparathyroidism when surgery is not possible
How does it work?
The parathyroid glands release a hormone that raises calcium. Cinacalcet makes the glands more sensitive to calcium, so they release less hormone.
