Nasonex Nasal Spray contains Mometasone.

Mometasone nasal spray is a steroid spray. It relieves a blocked, runny or itchy nose caused by allergies, and helps shrink nasal polyps.

What is it used for?

Hay fever and year-round allergies
Nasal polyps
Preventing hay fever when started before the season

How does it work?

Mometasone reduces swelling and inflammation in the nose.

This information is written in simple words to help you understand this product. It does not replace advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

Read these points before you start. If any of them apply to you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist first.

It works best when used every day. It can take a few days to a week to feel the full benefit.
Tell your doctor if you have a nose infection, recent nose surgery or injury, or sores inside your nose.
Tell your doctor if you have glaucoma or cataracts, or if you have been exposed to chickenpox or measles.
Tell your doctor if you take ritonavir or other strong "blocking" medicines.
Children using it for a long time should have their growth checked.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every other medicine, vitamin or herbal product you use.
Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children.

Like all medicines, Nasonex Nasal Spray can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them.

Common side effects

Nosebleeds or bloody mucus
Dryness or irritation inside the nose or throat
Headache
Unpleasant taste or smell

These are usually mild and often get better as your body gets used to it. Tell your doctor if they bother you or do not go away.

Stop using it and get medical help straight away if you notice:

Blurred vision or other changes in eyesight
Signs of an allergic reaction, such as swelling or trouble breathing
Sores in the nose that do not heal, or a whistling sound when breathing through the nose

This is not a complete list. If you notice anything unusual, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Shake the bottle before use. Prime it if new or not used for 2 weeks.
The usual adult dose is 2 sprays in each nostril once a day. For nasal polyps, 2 sprays in each nostril once or twice a day.
For hay fever, start 2 to 4 weeks before the pollen season if possible.
Wipe the nozzle clean after use.

If you miss a dose: Use it as soon as you remember, then carry on as normal. Do not use extra sprays to make up.

If you use too much: Using too much for a long time can affect your body's hormone levels. Talk to your doctor if you have used much more than prescribed.

How to store it: Keep it in its original pack at room temperature (below 25°C / 77°F), away from heat, damp and direct sunlight. Do not use it after the expiry date.

How long does Nasonex Nasal Spray take to work?: You may feel better within 12 hours, but it can take up to a week to get the full effect. Use it every day.
Is Nasonex Nasal Spray the same as a decongestant spray?: No. It is a steroid spray that reduces swelling and can be used long-term. Decongestant sprays should only be used for a few days.
How do I use a nasal spray properly?: Blow your nose, shake the bottle, tilt your head slightly forward, put the nozzle in one nostril, aim slightly away from the middle of your nose, and spray while breathing in gently. Repeat on the other side.
