5 reviews for Norethindrone (Aygestin)
Aygestin contains Norethindrone.
Norethindrone (also called norethisterone) is a man-made progesterone hormone. The 5 mg tablets are used for heavy or irregular periods, endometriosis, and to delay a period.
What is it used for?
- Heavy or irregular periods
- Endometriosis
- Delaying a period (for example, for a holiday or event)
- Missing periods
How does it work?
Norethindrone acts like natural progesterone. It keeps the womb lining stable so it does not shed until you stop taking it.

Like all medicines, Aygestin can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them.
Common side effects
- Breast tenderness
- Headache
- Feeling sick

- Sudden severe headache or changes in vision
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes
This is not a complete list. If you notice anything unusual, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- To delay a period: take 5 mg three times a day, starting 3 days before your period is due. Your period should come 2 to 3 days after you stop.
- For heavy periods or endometriosis, take it as your doctor tells you.

The parcel looked untouched when it got to me. The expiry date was fine and everything looked as it should. It got to my door right when they said it would. Would recommend this site to anyone looking for Norethindrone.
