Gyne-Lotrimin contains clotrimazole, an antifungal medicine used inside the vagina. It treats vaginal thrush, a common yeast infection that causes itching, soreness and a thick white discharge.

What is it used for?

Vaginal thrush (vaginal yeast infection)

How does it work?

Clotrimazole stops the yeast from making the substances it needs to build its cell walls. This kills the yeast and eases the itching and discharge.

This information is written in simple words to help you understand this product. It does not replace advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

Read these points before you start. If any of them apply to you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist first.

See a doctor before using it if this is your first time having thrush, you have had thrush more than twice in 6 months, you are pregnant, you are under 16 or over 60, or you have unusual symptoms such as fever, belly pain or smelly discharge.
It can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms. Use another form of contraception during treatment and for 5 days after.
Do not use tampons, douches or other vaginal products during treatment.
If you are pregnant, you can usually use it, but insert it by hand rather than with the applicator.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every other medicine, vitamin or herbal product you use.
Keep this product out of the reach and sight of children.

Like all medicines, Gyne-Lotrimin can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them.

Common side effects

Mild burning, stinging or itching in the vagina
Some extra discharge

These are usually mild and often get better as your body gets used to it. Tell your doctor if they bother you or do not go away.

Stop using it and get medical help straight away if you notice:

A rash, swelling or itching that spreads (possible allergic reaction)
Fever, belly pain or bleeding
Symptoms that are no better after 7 days

This is not a complete list. If you notice anything unusual, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Use it at bedtime, when lying down helps it stay in place.
Wash your hands. Put the vaginal tablet (or cream) into the applicator, or use your finger.
Lie on your back with your knees bent and gently push it as far into the vagina as is comfortable.
Use it for as many nights as the pack says, usually 1, 3 or 7 nights, even if you have your period.
Wash your hands afterwards and wash the applicator if it is reusable.

If you miss a dose: Use it as soon as you remember, then carry on as normal.

If you use too much: If you accidentally swallow it, contact a doctor or pharmacist for advice.

How to store it: Keep it below 25°C (77°F) in the original pack. Do not use it after the expiry date.
